If You Love for the Sake of Beauty
If you love for the sake of beauty, O never love me!
Love the sun, which has bright golden hair.
If you love for the sake of youth, O never love me!
Love the spring, which is reborn each year.
If you love for the sake of wealth, O never love me!
Love the mermaid, whose pearls are rich and clear.
If you love for the sake of love alone, O yes then, love me!
Love me as I love you-forever!
Friedrich Ruckert
I chose this picture because I think it is a great comparison to the poem by Friedrich Ruckert. It shows how the lady is not attractive but that her true beauty lies within. It shows that you should not judge a book by its cover, because what matters is what is on the inside. The poem is a great example of how love should really be and that it should not matter what someone looks like on the outside. I believe that this poem is by far my favorite, because I love the meaning that it gives.

Just a reminder that there was a third part to the poetry assignment. Re-check the class blog and complete that final part.
I'm glad you chose this poem because that is how I look at love also. Everyone should not judge by looks because they loose out on a special relationship by doing that. Overtime a persons looks will change maybe for the best in ways others for the worsts but true feelings and a person relationships will not. That is when a person finds true love I think is when it goes deeper than the skin and what is on the outside. But, when a person truly looks a deeper into the heart and their true feelings.
I like the picture you chose to pair with this poem. I would not have necessarily thought to pick this one, but since you did, I can definitely see how they relate. I also really like your point about how beauty comes from within, which is illustrated in both the picture and the poem.
